Diocese of Gusau - Some of the rural churches we were able to visit.

During our visit our team visited several rural Anglican churches of the Missionary Diocese of Gusau, Zamfara State, in Northern Nigeria. Our visits to these outlying churches was on week days, we were surprised by the number who came out to greet and welcome us.

We told the people about the purpose of our mission, namely to partner with the diocese in building Grace International School, the first Anglican Diocesan School in Zamfara State.

We were at St. Michael's Mafara on a weekday, and were given a warm welcome by the some of the members. We told them the purpose of our mission, to help to establish their Diocesan School,Grace International School, in the city of Gusau.

These churches are generally poor but everyone welcomed us with a table of refreshments. WE very much appreciated them since the temperature was well above 100 degrees fahrenheit.
At one time St. Michael's had a prominent position on the road leading into town. The members were forced to dismantle their building themselves, ssalvage what the could and relocate to a less visible site, on what is called Church Road. All the churches in this predominently Muslim town are located on this street.

These policemen at St. Michael's got a kick out of the fact that I am involved in prison outreach. We recognized that we each had a role in the lives of criminals, they said "We catch them, you preach to them."
